Group Classes

At Philly Unleashed, we believe training creates a special lifelong bond with your dog.

Group classes are a great way to get started, whether your dog just needs a bit of refinement, needs to start with the basics, or has specific behavior issues to address. Review our full list of classes to find the one that feels right for you, or contact us for a recommendation.

Our classes are designed to fit your needs and schedule. That’s why all of our obedience classes are run as a drop-in style class, so there is no need to make a six-week commitment and worry about missing a class. Classes can also be attended interchangeably at any of our locations. We also offer specialized workshops for more specific areas of training.

Before starting any classes, all dogs must have proof of vaccinations and good health from their veterinarian. If you are new to training with Philly Unleashed, we require first coming to a free, humans-only New Student Orientation. You’ll get acquainted on what to expect during class and get to meet our trainers. You do not have to attend orientation at the location you plan on attending class.

New students must sign up for an orientation before attending drop in classes!

Orientations are free and for humans only, dogs get the night off! The next orientation will be at Companion Pet Hospital at 7:45pm on September 18th.
Parking is limited, so be sure to arrive early if you are driving.

Workshops

AKC Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog Prep

These classes will prepare you and your dog to take the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Evaluation, as well as work on skills needed to prepare for the Comfort Caring Canines Therapy Dog evaluation.

The Canine Good Citizen program is an evaluation sanctioned by the American Kennel Club that proves that your dog has proper training, manners, and can maintain training even through distracting situations. This is a great next step in training for dogs who have passed basic obedience, and is the first step towards achieving a Therapy Dog certification. Therapy Dogs are eligible to visit hospitals, nursing homes, and other organized Therapy Dog groups to provide comfort and company to those in need.

During this class, we will be preparing your dog for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and the Comfort Caring Canines Therapy Dog evaluation by teaching and practicing all of the exercises on both evaluations. Class will run for 6 consecutive weeks. Following the six week preparation course we will offer the Canine Good Citizen Evaluation. The six week course and CGC test is included in the class fee. The Comfort Caring Canines Therapy Dog certification is organized and administered by Comfort Caring Canines.  CCC will communicate dates and times for the evaluation, necessary documentation needed, and fees associated for the certification directly with our Philly Unleashed students.

Dogs entering class should have previous obedience training, and experience working in a group situation. Dogs looking to pass the CCC Therapy evaluation need to be at least one year of age to qualify.

Dogs With Attitude

Having a reactive dog can be a real challenge! That’s why we’ve created this special course designed specifically for owners who struggle with dogs that are reactive toward other dogs on walks. In this workshop, we will go over basic training and management tactics when dealing with dog-to-dog reactivity, including teaching our dogs to be in close proximity to other dogs while bringing down their anxiety levels and keeping them under emotional threshold. All training techniques are positive reinforcement-based, and training collars will be suggested during the first night of class.

Pre-requisite: If you would like to attend this class, please email us to find out if this class is right for you info@phillyunleashed.com

The next session will begin Monday October 30th at the Philadelphia Pet Hotel and Villas 7401 Holstein Avenue Philadelphia, PA. The class is offered at 6:30pm and 7:30pm.

DWA: 2

You and your reactive dog have mastered working around other dogs in class. Now it’s time to take it to the next level. DWA 2 builds upon the foundations that you and your dog mastered in the Dogs With Attitude class and teaches you both to work through “real life” situations, including “surprise" dog sightings, movement and noise. DWA 2 class enrollment is by invitation only, so check with your instructor to see if this class is right for you and your dog.

Recall Bootcamp

Have you found yourself running down the street in your slippers in a futile chase to get your dog back in the house? Are you known to plead with your dog to stop dancing around and just let you put his leash on? Does your dog listen better to the word ‘Cookie’ than he does ‘Come’? Then this class is for you! Recall Bootcamp is a special, four-week class that will show you how to effectively teach and enforce a strong recall in your dog. In this class, several different techniques will be taught and practiced, including recalls through many distractions like other dogs, squirrels and people.

It is not required, but highly recommended, that dogs have taken Level 1 Obedience prior to taking this course.

 $100

The next session will begin September 23rd.

Rally Obedience and Tricks Mashup

Similar to agility, Rally Obedience sets a course for teams follow but instead of jumps and tunnels, the team performs specific obedience related skills marked by AKC Rally directional signs. These signs are a combination of sits, downs and heeling patterns.  In addition to learning many of the novice level signs, you will complete a different course each week.  This is a great opportunity for you to further strengthen the relationship with your best friend while positioning yourself to get into the AKC Rally Obedience ring!

But wait there’s more…

To ensure you get the most out of your Philly Unleashed class and eliminate downtime waiting your turn to walk the class course, we will have individual trick stations setup outside the course for you to rotate through.  These stations are going to offer the chance for you to learn tricks towards earning your AKC Novice Trick Dog title.   Or just something else to show off with your dog!

Prerequisite: This is a Level 2 equivalent course. All dogs should have passed Level 1 Obedience before attending.

Class fee is $180 for 6 weeks.

The next class will be starting Thursday September 14th at the Philadelphia Pet Hotel.

Intro to Agility

Have you ever watched dogs run through the obstacle course at dog shows or on TV and thought, “Hey, my dog would be great at that”? Or maybe you haven’t seen agility, but your crazy dog can jump over the couch and onto the countertop with the greatest of ease – either way, this class is for you! Your dog will learn the foundations of agility and focus on basic obstacles including Jumps, Dog Walk, the Tunnel, the A-Frame, and the Table. This class is a lot of fun for dogs, while also reinforcing impulse control and focus on the owner’s commands.

Pre-requisite: Dogs must pass Level 1 Obedience before taking this course.
