Kate Lowe, CPDT-KA

Kate’s passion for dog training had an early start. While other teens were at the mall, Kate spent her time training her Shetland Sheepdog, Frosti, with a variety of tricks and agility on a homemade jump course. This interest in the human-animal bond continued into her adult life, as Kate became an activist for pet adoption and a volunteer research assistant at the Pacuare Sea Turtle Reserve in Costa Rica.

Kate’s experience with Philly Unleashed began in early 2010 when she enrolled her dog Heidi into Dogs With Attitude classes. Kate was completely fascinated with the Heidi’s transformation and impressed by the compassion the trainers gave her as an owner in that time of need. She found herself offering training tips to family, friends and co-workers, and came to realize it was time for a change.  She decided her profession should match her passion, so she transitioned from full-time art director to contractor – and Philly Unleashed team member!

Kate joined Philly Unleashed in early 2016 as an intern, and quickly progressed to class instructor and private trainer. Her favorite part of training is providing emotional support to owners through the educational process. She tries to make sure all her clients feel heard, no matter their pet’s issues. She also thoroughly enjoys the problem-solving process of tailoring a training program to each dog’s individual needs and abilities.

Kate has a Bachelor’s degree in Design from Drexel University and is passionate about taking every possible opportunity she gets to learn. She plans to sit for her CCPDT certification in the fall of 2017 and is in the process of receiving her STAR Puppy Kindergarten evaluation certification. She currently lives in Philadelphia with her husband, John, their two rescue dogs, Chunk and Heidi, and cat, Carl. In her spare time, she enjoys globetrotting, studying nutrition and exercise science and raising awareness for PCOS.

What People Are Saying

“I began attending puppy playgroup with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel then moved on to S.T.A.R. Puppy Kindergarten.  I realized I needed additional help in communicating with my puppy and have been working with Kate Lowe.  Kate has come to my home and helped with such issues as housebreaking, loose leash walking and other basic skills.  I’ve seen a lot of improvement in Tyri and quite frankly, as he’s such a smart dog, I’ve enjoyed his companionship even more.  My dream is to attempt agility training with Tyri and I believe Kate has helped me en route to my goal.”

-Cheryl C. & Tyri

“My husband and I are first time dog owners and Kate always took the time to answer all of our questions and help us identify the most important things to work on with our pup, Eliza. Kate was incredibly accessible by both email and text and always came up with creative solutions. Eliza is excellent at sit and touch and continues to get better with stay and down. We also can’t thank Kate enough for helping us with crate and potty training. Eliza likes her crate so much more thanks to crate games and pupperoni! Working with Kate was a great way to help Eliza become a well behaved member of our family and we will absolutely continue to use the tools she taught us and Eliza.”
