Lindsay Root has worked with dogs in a professional capacity since graduating from Rutgers University in 2015. Upon graduating with a degree in Environmental Policy, Lindsay began working at the Brandywine Valley SPCA, as a kennel technician. Her handling skills and talents were recognized quickly and she was promoted to the position of Enrichment Coordinator. In this role, Lindsay evaluated the dogs at the shelter on a case by case basis for suitability with other dogs and facilitated playgroups with groups of 10-15 shelter dogs at a time. Lindsay was impressed at the way that safe socialization translated to a population of dogs who were more relaxed in the shelter environment and easy to handle for volunteers and staff, thereby causing them to be adopted more quickly into permanent homes.
Lindsay joined the Philly Unleashed team as an intern in January 2017, where she honed her training skills assisting classes and working with dogs in the Farmcamp program. Lindsay is excited to begin teaching classes and private lessons with Philly Unleashed and earned her professional certification in the Fall of 2017. Along with working as a Philly Unleashed instructor, Lindsay currently serves as the Canine Behavior Enrichment Coordinator at the Women’s Humane Society in Bensalem, PA. She is also an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
Lindsay lives in Philadelphia with her Pit Bull, Wayne. When she’s not training dogs, she enjoys playing intramural soccer and exploring Philadelphia with Wayne by her side.
